Moving to Industry 4.0
October, 2022 Odyssey Geophysics is very excited to have attended the launch of the FX20 in Sydney. The event hosted by Konica Minolta and Markforged showcased the Markforged FX20 as well as some of the other products offered by these companies. Some of the Odyssey team including the company's CEO had the opportunity to make connections within the industry and get a hands-on look at many of Markforged products, including the groundbreaking Metal X System (CEO Ashby standing with the Metal X Sinter-2 pictured). The Metal X System is an accessible way to fabricate complex metal parts in a a wide variety of advanced materials including stainless steel and copper. The function formed part of the nationwide roadshow for the FX20, the event also featured talks from a number of guest speakers involved in the 3d printing industry. A key focus among the speakers was on the transition of many companies and manufacturing processes within Australia to Industry 4.0. Being the proud owners of additive manufacturing equipment including the Markforge Mark Two. Odyssey is taking major steps in the digital manufacturing space and push to Industry 4.0. The Workshop
September, 2022 Odyssey Geophysics is proud to announce its new Tasmanian based workshop. Located in the picturesque town of New Norfolk, the Odyssey Geophysics workshop will enable the rapid design, development and assembly of bespoke geophysical hardware and instruments. This highly equipped space, features 3d printers, metal working equipment and surface mount printed circuit board assembly tools such as a pick'n'place machine and a re-flow oven. With all of this equipment and space to grow, designing, manufacturing and prototyping our geophysical instruments will greatly improved and fast-tracked. The workshop and dedicated engineering team form a critical component of Odyssey Geophysics vision to innovate and and to continue pushing the forefront of passive seismic technology. The team is also very enthusiastic to be bringing high tech spaces such as this to the regional town. Watch this space! |
A New Year
January, 2020 Transitioning into 2020, it is amazing to look back at how much our team at Odyssey Geophysics has grown and accomplished throughout 2019. With our team doubling over the past year, the company has transitioned into a highly-capable, innovation hub, powered by a diverse and talented collection of individuals. As a core component of our services, 2019 was a busy year for field operations. During the year, the team collectively travelled over 48,583km via helicopter and vehicle in some of the most remote regions of Australia - a greater distance than the circumference of the Earth! Our team have been working on a number of geophysical data processing contracts, in a variety of fields, including groundwater, minerals exploration and geoscience research. The results of these studies will showcase our cutting-edge processing techniques and continue to promote passive seismology as a new geophysical frontier. The growth in our team has facilitated a significant ramp-up in research and development. Our engineers have been busy prototyping new purpose-built hardware solutions, while our geophysicists, software developers and external partners have been developing novel cloud-enabled data processing techniques. We look forward to future projects, challenges and opportunities in 2020. |
>> Dear Data
August, 2019 Last week several of our team attended the AWS Public Sector Summit hosted in Canberra. The topics of Machine Learning, Hybrrid Cloud, Database Migration, Security, DevOps and Data Analytics were just a few of the things discussed over the two days. It is exciting to see the progression of cloud hosted data processing and to explore the unlimited development possibilities. Our team at Odyssey Geophysics are constantly keeping up to date with the current and future technology trends. With so much data being generated daily, not to mention the future proliferation of scientific IoT instruments, scalable ingestion and processing of data is a key component of the future. We are exited to be working with the AWS for our own data platform and look forward to seeing where we are headed. Keep an eye on this space, innovation is in full motion! |
#AusArray Year 2 has officially been deployed!
June, 2019 Odyssey Geophysics again in conjunction with Hughes Helicopters has completed a major field operation to deploy 129 passive seismic recording sites. These sites are now operational, and for the next year will record natural vibrations of the earth including higher frequency ambient noise, microseismic activity and local and distant earthquakes. The deployed grid covers an area of over 310,000 square kilometres, and lies in some of the most arid and remote parts of Australia, making it our biggest operation yet. The field operation was conducted over a 4 week period and was a tremendous success. The Odyssey Geophysics and Hughes Helicopters team utilised two specialised helicopters, a fuel truck and multiple support vehicles to safely and swiftly deploy the sites. In collaboration with Geoscience Australia, It will be exciting to explore what these sites might record over this next year and see what light they might shed on the complicated geology of remote Northern Territory. |
#AusArray Year 1 Complete!
December, 2018 Odyssey Geophysics in conjunction with Hughes Helicopters has completed a major field operation to retrieve data and recover the equipment from the first year of the AusArray project. The 119 sites deployed in September/October 2017, have been recording data for 12 months and were retrieved successfully in November and December of 2018. A total of 2.2 TB of data were recovered, containing everything from major global earthquakes, to local ground vibrations and background noise (there were plenty of curious cows that had an interest in some of the sites!). The field operation conducted over a period of 3 weeks was a great success. The Odyssey Geophysics crew completed the service swiftly and safely, obtaining and delivering high quality data to Geoscience Australia. In collaboration with Geoscience Australia, It will be exciting to explore such a unique dataset and to shed light on the complicated geology of remote Northern Territory and Queensland. |
#AusArray Site Service and Data Retrieval, Week 1!
April, 2018 Welcome to the first week of the AusArray service and data retrieval. Site maintenance, battery replacement, and data retrieval are the key objectives for this field trip. It's been good to escape the southern winter and soak up the northern sun and work along side some talented individuals. So far we've serviced several sites by both helicopter and car (see photos). The condition of the sites have varied depending on the amount of cattle activity and localised weather. Surface velocity tests have also been conducted at 3 sites to help validate and constrain the data collected by the passive seismic survey. Many thanks to all the field crew from Odyssey Geophysics as well has the helicopter pilots and ground crew from Neil Hughes & Hughes Helicopters; who've helped to make this service successful to date. |
